Fans of Bridgerton will be delighted with today's news as Netflix confirms the hit series has been renewed for seasons three and four.

The streamer made the announcement on Twitter, alerting fans to "breaking news from the Ton".

There are a total of eight novels in Julia Quinn's book series on which Bridgerton is based, meaning there is no shortage of storylines for the Netflix show to continue to delve into. In fact, showrunner Chris Van Dusen has already talked about the potential of bringing eight seasons of Bridgerton to Netflix.

As is the case with the books, the second series will focus on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the family's eldest brother, with Simone Ashley also joining the Bridgerton cast as his headstrong love interest Kate Sharma.

It makes sense, then, to assume the confirmed seasons three and four would focus on Benedict Bridgerton and Colin Bridgerton – alongside Nicola Coughlan's Penelope Featherington – respectively.

The news follows on from the announcement that Rege-Jean Page would not appear in Bridgerton season two. The actor's on-screen wife Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), however, will be making a return to meddle in her big brother's love life just like he did with hers.

A Netflix statement confirmed: “Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear."
